Balakrishnan G. Iyer (Balki)
Balakrishnan G. Iyer (Balki) is founding Chief Growth Officer of Utopus Insights, responsible for all sales, marketing and business development activities for the company. He is a senior Management Professional in the Energy & Utilities sector who served as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Enel Green Power India. Enel established its presence by acquiring a platform where Balki was part of the Key Management responsible for growth of the company through BD, develop projects by managing Engineering & Construction and the Operations of all the Renewable Power Projects in India. Balki has also co-founded a data analytics/technology company in the E&U space that developed new products including predictive analytics. Balki also built and ran the offshore Operations team in India for the Customers.
Prior to this, Balki led Business Development for GE’s Global Research Center, based in New York, with responsibility for driving new technology development in the Renewable Energy portfolio (namely Wind, Solar) & Smart Grid for Energy & Utility customers globally.
Balki has worked in several GE businesses with increasing responsibilities in the areas of BD, Services, Operations, Quality and Risk Management in various parts of the United States, Europe & Asia. He was in GE Capital as Vice President, Business Development, where he had responsibility for developing and driving new growth opportunities by identifying new markets and product solutions. He is Six Sigma Black Belt certified and is a graduate of the GE’s prestigious Management Leadership Program.
Balki attended the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) for Joint Undergraduate and Master’s Degrees in Mechanical Engineering & Science; holds a Master of Science in Systems Science & Industrial Engineering from Binghamton University, NY, and a Master of Business Administration from New York University (NYU) Stern school of business.
Balki is a Director at Iyer Educational Institutions that runs schools and technology platform focussed on development of kids with Autism which he co-founded with his wife. Balki also sat on the Executive Board for GE’s Asia Pacific American Forum, a diversity group focussed on Asian leadership talent within GE.
Balki works out of NY and lives with his wife Svetlana and 2 daughters Meera & Maya in NJ. His hobbies include Yoga and Badminton.
